Something out-of-the-ordinary is happening in Idaho Falls on Sat. June 30th, 2007…..an all-day outdoor bluegrass music festival called Bluegrass on the Greenbelt (BGGB for short). Even more unusual, this event is free to the public! Compare that with $50 for a day-pass at Targhee Bluegrass Festival, and you have to admit the price is right!
BGGB is happening Saturday June 30, 2007, from 12:00 to 9:00PM at South Capital Park immediately south of the Eagle Rock Art Museum. Bands performing will include: Celtic Air (Idaho Falls), The Acousticals (Missoula), The Wild Coyotes (Pocatello), New South Fork (Idaho Falls), and Chickweed (Idaho Falls). Through the generosity of corporate sponsors ANNA Inc. (www.annaTeam.com), Portage Environmental, and the Post Register, we are able to offer free admission to all. Our objectives are: (1) to host a fun, family-friendly bluegrass music festival for the community, and (2) to raise money to benefit the Strings for Kids program, a non-profit organization started by Sites Violin Shop to help children of low-income families learn to play musical instruments. To this end, we’ll be accepting donations the day of the event, with all proceeds going to the Strings for Kids program (www.stringsforkids.org).
The festival will be held at South Capital Park, a nice shady grassy area along the east bank of the Snake River. With the large trees and grass, we think it will be ideal for folks to relax and listen to some good music on a hot summer day. To quench your appetite or slake your thirst, there will be food, lemonade, ice cream and sno-cones for sale. For the youngsters, there is a playground nearby, and juggling, hula hoops and other activities are planned. So if you crave the sound of the banjo or mandolin, or the cry of the fiddle, bring your lawn chair or blanket and spend the whole darn day!
